About Hanging by a Fred

I was inspired to create HBAF by my father's love of climbing and the beautiful ropes he left behind after his death.

My Inspiration

Not wanting to throw these gorgeous ropes away, I decided to upcycle them into gifts for friends and family, little mementos of a life well lived.

What started as a way of giving these beautiful ropes a new purpose soon became a creative outlet that I truly loved, inspiring me to take the plunge into the world of self-employment. I’ve now been in business for over 11 years, and I absolutely love what I do. I may have lost my father, but through pursuing my dream, I’ve gained a new lease of life.

Every rope has its own story. It has been part of a climber’s adventures, challenges and achievements, making every piece I create completely unique. Each one is handmade with love and care, and I hope that comes across when you receive your order.
